Hi there, my name is Courtney Vogel. I am 24 years old and a professional golfer with dreams of playing on the LPGA. I am deaf in both ears, cochlear implant in my left and a hearing aid in my right.
I began playing golf when I was 12 years old, after trying numerous sports, but with my restrictions to play contact sports because of my cochlear implant, golf felt right.
I have lived in numerous different parts of the country-- from Sumter, South Carolina, to Charlotte, North Carolina, to Reno, Nevada, to Scottsdale, Arizona, to Greenville, South Carolina, to Sacramento, California, Monterey, California, back to Scottsdale, Arizona, back to Greenville, South Carolina, to Wichita, Kansas, and then back to Phoenix, Arizona.
In December 2020, my dad was in a head on collision where a minivan crossed the median and hit him head on when he was coming home from work one afternoon. It hurt my family financially and lots of things got pushed aside.
I reside in Phoenix, Arizona currently. I work full time as an assistant golf professional to pay for tournament entry fees, travel, food, and pay for my own monthly bills. Along with the costs of my hearing devices, it is tough to stay afloat financially.
I played in Stage I of LPGA Q-School in August. I learned a lot about myself as a person on and off the golf course. I am disappointed as I thought I was prepared, but I was not. That said, I know what I must do going forward and going to work hard to achieve what I want the most! Nothing worth having comes easy.
I don’t want to have the financial aspect to hold me back from reaching my goals and achieving my dreams.
